Human downgrading

The arrow of evolution inches upwards. Most of the time.

My flawed assumption is that technology is there to advance human evolution and development towards higher levels of consciousness and capacity to navigate increasing complexity.

However, it might behoove us to stop and ask the question of certain technologies. Is this their intent?

If technology is not designed for all humanities increasingly wellbeing and thrivability then what is it designed for?

We are beginning to acknowledge that some technology is actually causing human downgrading. *This two-word combination was crafted by Tristan Harris as a way to express the effects of social media platforms like Facebook.

When technology thrives off increasing polarisation – the more anger incited the more people stay engaged the more technology wins the battle for our attention – when technology becomes the greatest propaganda and manipulation machine the world has ever known – tipping elections, inciting massacres, fuelling hate violence – then it might well be time to consider that certain technologies are indeed actively engaged in human downgrading.

There is a war going on in the domains of the invisible. It has achieved such momentum through subterfuge only a few people are awaking to its casualties and the long term consequences. Like a rampant virus, it will be hard to rein in. It is a parasite that feeds off us to then turn upon us for its own ends. Like all parasites it needs a constant supply of new feeding stations. Eventually it will starve when the source of supply ends. I do not want to see that ends.

I would prefer we took a different path and ended the human downgrading. To do that we need to act. To act we need to know that which till now is acting upon us.
